My best friend spends every summer in Oregon doing volunteer work with
an archaeologist who works for the BLM (Bureau of Land Management). I
think she's been doing this since the summer of '86. I finally went and
visited her a few years ago for a week and had such a good time I had to
go back the next year. (It's no wonder she's been back year after
year!) On both of my visits, we took 4 or 5 days and drove around
exploring Oregon. The first time, over to the coast and down into
Northern California...the second time, up to the Columbia River, over to
the coast, and around Mt. Saint Helens. It's a beautiful part of the
country. And, Crater Lake has to be one of the most amazingly gorgeous
natural wonders I can ever remember seeing. The water is sooooo blue.
Alas, we didn't take the ferry boat to Wizard Island (seen here on the
left) and were, of course, sorry about it afterward. But, that's life,
eh? Perhaps next time...
