One of the most amazing things to me about today's game was that neither
team hit a homerun. This with just about the strongest wind to lf I've
seen at the Disch all year. Whew. Edelstein kept up the streak he was
on yesterday, going 3-for-4 with a double, 3 runs scored, and a stolen
base. Moore and Nicholson also went 3-for-4: Moore with a double, 2
runs scored, a sacrifice, and 1 run batted in; Nicholson with 3 singles,
1 run scored, and 4 runs batted in. Dunn pitched a very nice game,
giving up only 3 earned runs on 7 hits with 9 strike outs and 5 walks.
All in all, a vast improvement over yesterday.
And so...

- Texas (4 earned runs):

- During Nicholson's at bat, Edelstein stole 2b and moved to 3b on
an error (e2) as the throw from the catcher was low and went into
cf.

- ISU sent Marbys in to pitch.
- Kolbach singled to cf (2 rbi). Ivy and Cox scored. Cridland to
2b.
- During Aspito's at bat, Cridland and Kolbach successfully
executed a double steal.
- Aspito struck out looking (full count).
- 7th inning
- ISU (1 earned run):
- Bjorklund tripled to deep cf. Sepulveda was racing to the ball,
actually got his glove on it but ran into the wall and couldn't
quite hold on to the ball. He almost made a spectacular play to
rob Bjorklund of his hit.
- Runk grounded out to 2b (4-3, rbi). Bjorklund scored.
- Duncan hit a triple over Cridland's head in rf (toward the cf gap).
- Leimbek walked on 4 pitches.
- Uelmen struck out swinging (1-2 count).
- (Dunn pitch count: 19)
- Texas (1 earned run):
- Edelstein doubled down the lf line. It was a high popup that
landed fair and just outside the range of 3b, ss, and lf who
were all charging the ball.
- Sepulveda grounded out to ss (6-3). Edelstein to 3b.
- Nicholson singled to rf (rbi). Edelstein scored.
- Ivy reached on a 4-6 fielder's choice.
- Cox grounded out to ss (6-3).
- 8th inning
- ISU (1 earned run):
- Wierzbicki grounded out to ss (6-3).
- McDonough walked (3-1 count).
- O'Brien reached on an infield single to 2b. McDonough to 2b.
Nicholson had his glove on the ball and Aspito almost managed to
pick it up in time to throw the batter out at 1b but couldn't
quite get a grip on it. It probably should've been scored as an
error on Nicholson but it wasn't.
- McNertney struck out looking (1-2 count). Poor guy. He came
into the game 0-17 and left 0-21.
- Bjorklund walked (full count) to load the bases.
- Texas sent Halter in to pitch. (Dunn's pitch count: 17...for a
total of 137)
- During Runk's at bat, all runners advanced on a wild pitch.
McDonough scored.
- Runk grounded out to 2b (4-3). A very nice play by Nicholson.
- Texas (2 earned runs):
- Moore doubled on a play nearly identical to Edelstein's double
in the 7th. The ISU infielders got a bit shook up on the play,
though, as they collided with each other trying to field the
ball.
- Cridland grounded out to ss (6-3). Moore to 3b.
- Kolbach doubled off the top of the fence in lf (rbi). Moore
scored.
- Aspito singled to lf. Kolbach to 3b.
- Marbys threw one pitch (a ball) to Edelstein and was replaced
by Whitney. Texas replied by sending Johnson in to pinch hit
for Edelstein.
- Johnson singled to ss (rbi). Kolbach scored. Aspito to 3b.
This is another play I would've ruled an error. The ss had a
bead on the ball but appeared to take his eye off the ball,
anticipating the double play, and the ball ended up bouncing
off his glove into cf.
- Sepulveda grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.
- 9th inning
- ISU:
- Duncan grounded out to 2b (4-3).
- Leimbek struck out looking (1-2 count). He tried to check his
swing but was called out by the ump.
- Uelmen flew out to cf.
- Texas did not have to bat.
