Comments
I kept score as I listened to the game on the radio. Dunn had a very
rough day. He started off pretty well but got into trouble in the 4th
when he gave up 4 consecutive walks. The announcers said his rhythm
seemed off. Coach Hooton, in his post-game interview, pretty much
confirmed this analysis. Going back through the box, I found that Dunn
went to a 2-2 or full count against 12 of the 18 batters he faced in the
first 4 innings. Then, in the 5th, he started off with a strikeout and
then gave up back-to-back homeruns. That proved to be his downfall.
Munroe came on and did a great job in relief. Sadly, the offense wasn't
quite up to the challenge, although the team did threaten up to the very
end. Cridland had a great game, hitting his third homerun of the year
in the 3rd and making a couple of great plays in rf.
And, so...
Game summary:
- 1st inning

- Moore grounded out to ss.
- Cridland struck out looking (1-2 count).
- Miami:
- Hill was hit by a 2-2 pitch.
- Alvarez hit a sac bunt down the 3b line. The announcers said it
was a bad call by the 1b ump...the batter should've been safe.
Hill moved to 2b.
- Michaels struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- Burrell flew out to deep rf (1st pitch). Cridland backed up all
the way to the wall to make the catch in rf.
- 2nd inning
- Texas (1 unearned run):
- Aspito grounded out to ss (6-3).
- Kolbach reached on an error by Crespo who bobbled the ball and
couldn't recover (e4).
- Ivy reached on a 6-4 fielder's choice.
- Sepulveda reached on an error by Huff who was unable to handle
a bunt down the 1b line (e3). Ivy moved to 2b.
- Nicholson hit a single to cf (rbi). Michaels (in cf) made a
high throw over the catcher's head allowing the baserunner to
advance. Ivy scored. Sepulveda moved to 3b and Nicholson to
2b on the error (e8).
- Johnson popped out to 1b (in foul territory).
- Miami (1 earned run):

- Hill stole 3b on the first pitch to Michaels.
- Michaels flew out to rf. Hill tagged up but was thrown out by
Richardson to complete the double play.

- 6th inning
- Texas:
- Ivy singled up the middle.
- Sepulveda hit a sac bunt down the 1b line (1-3). Ivy moved to
2b.

- Johnson struck out swinging. The catcher dropped the ball and
had to throw down to 1b to complete the out (2-3).
- Miami:
- Crespo struck out looking (1-2 count).
- Brown grounded out to 3b (5-3).
- Jacobson grounded out to 1b (3-1).
- 7th inning
- Texas:
- Loeffler popped out to 3b.
- Moore struck out looking (1-2 count).
- Miami mysteriously sent Gutierrez in to pitch. I say
"mysteriously" because Santos seemed to be in control of the game.
Either Santos had a pitch limit imposed before the game started or
Miami wanted to get a lhp in to face the 3 left-handed batters
about to come to the plate.
- Cridland struck out swinging (0-2 count).
- Miami:
- Hill struck out looking (2-2 count).
- Alvarez grounded out to ss (6-3).
- Michaels singled to cf.
- Burrell walked (full count).
- Huff grounded out to 1b (3u).
- 8th inning
- Texas:
- Aspito grounded out to 1b (3u).
- Texas announced Cox would pinch hit for Kolbach and Miami sent
Howell in to pitch.
- Cox popped out to 1b.
- Schumacher (pinch hitting for Ivy) struck out swinging (0-2 count).
- Miami (1 earned run):
- Texas kept Schumacher in at 1b.
- Muller hit a homerun over the rf fence (rbi).
- Crespo singled to cf.
- Miami sent Clute in to pinch run for Crespo.
- Brown hit a sac bunt (1-3) down the 1b line. Clute moved to 2b.
- Jacobson hit a sac fly to cf. Clute moved to 3b.
- Hill struck out swinging (full count).
- 9th inning
- Texas (1 unearned run):
- Miami sent Morrison in to pitch. I'm guessing Clute stayed in at
2b but the announcers never said one way or the other.
- Sepulveda singled to lf toward the gap.
- Nicholson struck out looking (0-2 count).
- Edelstein (pinch hitting for Johnson) singled to rf. Sepulveda
moved to 2b.
- During Loeffler's at bat, Jacobson dropped the 2nd strike and
both runners broke on the passed ball (at least I'm guessing it
was a passed ball -- the announcers never said one way or the
other). Jacobson tried to throw Edelstein out at 2b but the ball
skipped through to cf. Sepulveda scored and Edelstein moved to
3b.
- Loeffler struck out looking (1-2 count).
- Moore grounded out to 3b (5-3).
- Miami did not have to bat.
