Brrrrrr...cold and wet at the Disch today. It was misting at the start
of the game with the temperatures hanging out in the low 50s. Seibel
started off well but ran into a bit of trouble in the 3rd when 4
unearned runs crossed the plate. Texas is still struggling a bit
defensively but I think it's just a matter of getting some more
experience before these problems start disappearing. I suspect the
strong pre-conference schedule is going to serve the Horns well when
Big 12 play comes around. Offensively, it's great to see that the
team doesn't give up. They kept fighting today. After falling behind
9-2, they fought back to within 3 runs. Cridland hit his 2nd homerun
of the year and Johnson hit his first as a Longhorn. Nicholson went
2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and 3 runs scored.
And, so...
Game summary:
- 1st inning
- LSU:
- Harris grounded out to 3b (5-3). Great throw by Aspito to make
the play.
- Higgins singled up the middle.
- Barbier hit into a 1-4-6-3 double play. Seibel deflected the
ball headed for cf slightly and Nicholson made a nice recovery to
complete the dp.
- Texas:
- Loeffler was called out on strikes (1-2 count).
- Nicholson flew out to lf.
- Aspito popped out to ss (shallow lf).
- 2nd inning
- LSU:
- Furniss walked (full count).
- McClure struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- Earnhart struck out swinging (0-2 count).
- Davis struck out swinging (1-2 count).
- Texas:
- Kolbach walked (full count).
- Cridland hit a sac bunt to 3b (5-3). Kolbach moved to 2b.
- Moore struck out swinging (0-2 count). The catcher had to
throw to 1b (2-3) to complete the out.
- Schumacher walked (full count).
- Johnson walked (full count). Kolbach moved to 3b. Schumacher
moved to 2b.
- Sepulveda struck out looking (1-2 count).
- 3rd inning
- LSU (4 unearned runs):
- Cresse singled up the middle.
- Dalton reached on a 1-6 fielder's choice (bunt attempt).
- During Harris' at bat, Dalton moved to 2b on a balk. Before the
balk, Seibel tried to pick Dalton off several times and was very
close on at least one throw. The catcher (Johnson) also tried to
pick him off and it looked like he succeeded but the 1b ump ruled
him safe.
- Harris reached on an error by Moore (e6) who was unable to handle
the ground ball. Dalton moved to 3b.
- Higgins hit a sac fly to rf (rbi). Dalton scored.
- Barbier hit a homerun over the lf fence (2 rbi).
- Furniss walked (full count).
- McClure singled to lf. Furniss moved to 2b.

- Aspito grounded out to 2b (4-3, rbi). Nicholson scored.
- Kolbach grounded out to 1b (unassisted).
- 4th inning
- LSU (1 unearned run):
- Texas sent Richardson in at cf and moved Sepulveda to lf. This
was apparently as a result of an injury Loeffler suffered on
Friday that continued to bother him. Texas sent Halter in to
pitch.
- Cresse reached and made it to 2b on an error by Aspito whose
throw to 1b was high (e5).
- Dalton hit a sac bunt down the 3b line (5-3). Cresse moved to
3b.
- Harris hit a sac fly to cf (rbi). Cresse scored.
- Higgins doubled down the lf line.
- Barbier grouned out to ss (6-3). Moore made a great play to
snag the ball behind 2b and make the throw to 1b.
- Texas:
- Cridland took a 2-0 pitch over the cf fence just right of the
"green monster" (rbi). If the ball had been a foot to the left,
he would probably have been limited to a double off the wall.
- Moore grounded out to 3b (5-3).
- Schumacher grounded out to 2b (4-3).
- Johnson struck out looking (0-2 count).
- 5th inning (15 minute rain delay before the start of the inning)

- Earnhart singled to cf.
- Davis flew out to lf.
- Cresse popped out to 3b (foul).
- Texas (1 unearned run):
- Aspito reached on an infield single to 2b. Close play.
- Kolbach singled to rf. Aspito moved to 3b. On the play, the
right fielder had trouble fielding the ball and Aspito was
able to score (e9). Kolbach moved to 2b.
- Cridland popped up to the catcher in foul territory. Cresse
made a great play to catch the ball just outside the Texas
dugout.
- Moore lined out to cf.

broke for 2b. Johnson made a poor throw to 2b. Witten made it
safely to 2b and Dalton scored on the error (e2).

- Texas (4 runs, 1 unearned):
- Johnson took the first pitch high over the lf fence (rbi).

- During Witten's at bat, Dalton scored on a wild pitch.
- Witten lined out on a screamer to the pitcher.
- Barbier grounded out to the catcher (2-3). The ball died at the
plate.
- Texas (2 earned runs):
- Richardson walked (full count).
- Nicholson doubled off the wall in lf (rbi). Richardson scored.
- Aspito grounded out to 1b (3-1). A nice play by LSU's pitcher
to cover 1b. Nicholson moved to 3b.
- Cox reached on an infield single. Everyone seemed surprised that
Barbier didn't charge the lazy pop up but let the ball bounce
instead. Nicholson was frozen at 3b and Cox managed to reach
base safely by the time Barbier managed to get his glove on the
ball.
- Simpson (pinch hitting for Cridland) grounded out to 2b (4-3, rbi).
Nicholson scored. Cox moved to 2b.
