Comments
Austin pitched a great game for Stanford, holding the Horns to 3 hits
and 1 run scored. Texas managed to load the bases in the 1st but
failed to capitalize. Richardson was picked off 1b in the 2nd inning
after several close throws from the pitcher. It looked like he didn't
really take the efforts of the Stanford pitcher very seriously and he
ended up paying the price. The lone Texas score came in the 3rd as
Loeffler was hit by the first pitch (it glanced off his helmet),
moved to 2b on a sac bunt by Aspito, moved to 3b on a balk, and scored
on a single by Kolbach. Munroe did a great job during his first three
innings of keeping Stanford in check but things started to fall apart
for him in the 4th as he ended up with his first loss of the season.
And, so...
Game summary:
- 1st inning
- Stanford:
- Schrager struck out swinging (1-2 count).
- Muth grounded out to ss (6-3).
- Gerut walked (full count) and was caught stealing (2-4) during
Hochgesang's at bat.
- Texas:
- Loeffler flew out to lf (foul).
- Aspito singled on a ball that hit the 1b bag and bounced over the
diving first baseman.
- Cridland popped up to 3b.
- Aspito stole 2b during Kolbach's at bat.
- Kolbach walked (full count).
- Schumacher singled to lf to load the bases.
- Moore struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- 2nd inning
- Stanford:
- Hochgesang struck out looking (2-2 count).
- Gall grounded out to ss (6-3). Moore booted the ball a bit and
did a good job of recovering in time to make the throw to 1b.
- Pecci reached on an infield single toward 3b.
- Borchard popped up to 3b.
- Texas:
- Nicholson lined out to 3b.
- Johnson struck out looking (2-2 count).
- Richardson walked (full count) and was picked off (1-3) during
Loeffler's at bat.
- 3rd inning
- Stanford:
- Texas sent Sepulveda in at cf.
- Thompson reached on an infield singled that dribbled down the
3b line. Aspito had no chance at making a play at 1b.
- Thompson moved to 2b on a wild pitch during Salter's at bat.
- Salter hit into a 9-4-6 double play. He hit a ball very sharply
toward the cf/lf gap. It looked like Cridland had no chance at
catching up to the ball so Thompson took off. Cridland caught
the ball, however, and Thompson was on 3b and had no chance to
make it back to 2b before the relay from Nicholson to Moore
completed the double play. It was a great catch by Cridland.
- Schrager grounded out to 3b.
- Texas (1 earned run):
- Loeffler was hit by the first pitch.
- Aspito hit a sac bunt down the 1b line (3-4). Loeffler moved to
2b.
- Loeffler moved to 3b on a balk during Cridland's at bat.
- Cridland popped up to 3b (foul).
- Kolbach singled up the middle (rbi). Loeffler scored.
- Schumacher lined out to ss.
- 4th inning
- Stanford (3 earned runs):
- Muth struck out swinging (0-2 count).
- Gerut tripled into the cf/lf gap.
- Hochgesang singled to rf (rbi). Gerut scored.
- Gall doubled off the wall in lf (rbi). Hochgesang scored.
- During Pecci's at bat, Gall moved to 3b on a wild pitch.
- Pecci was hit by a pitch (1-2 count).
- Borchard singled to rf (rbi). Gall scored. Pecci moved to 3b.
- Texas sent Hale in to pitch.
- Thompson walked.
- Salter hit into a 4-6-3 double play.
- Texas:
- Moore struck out looking (full count).
- Nicholson popped out to rf.
- Johnson struck out looking (0-2 count).
- 5th inning
- Stanford (3 earned runs):
- Schrager walked (3-1 count) and moved to 2b on a wild pitch during
Muth's at bat.
- Muth hit a sac fly to cf. Schrager moved to 3b.
- Texas sent Kolbach in to pitch.
- Gerut tripled to the cf/rf gap (rbi). Schrager scored.
- Hochgesang was intentionally walked.
- Texas sent Weaver in to pitch.
- Gall walked (full count) to load the bases.
- Pecci reached on an infield single (rbi). Gerut scored.
Hochgesang moved to 3b. Gall moved to 2b. Chasing down the
potential double play ball, Moore mishandled the ball and wasn't
able to make the toss to 2b to complete the first part of the
double play. I don't know why the play was ruled a hit rather
than an error -- I thought it looked like Moore had a good chance
to make at least one out if he'd fielded cleanly.
- Borchard struck out looking (1-2 count). A passed ball on the 3rd
strike, however, allowed all the baserunners to advance.
Hochgesang scored.
- Thompson was intentionally walked to load the bases and set up
the force out at home.
- Salter struck out looking (2-2 count).
- Texas:
- Stanford sent Day in at rf.
- Sepulveda grounded out to ss (6-3).
- Loeffler struck out looking (2-2 count).
- Aspito was hit by the first pitch.
- Cridland struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- 6th inning
- Stanford:
- Schrager walked (full count).
- Muth flew out to cf.
- Gerut struck out swinging (2-2 count).
- Hochgesang struck out swinging (1-2 count). However, the wild
pitch (which went all the way into the Texas dugout) allowed
him to reach 1b. Schrager moved to 2b on the wp.
- Gall lined out to 2b.
- Texas:
- Kolbach flew out to cf.
- Schumacher grounded out to 2b (4-3). Schrager made a very nice
play fielding the ball deep in the infield and twirling around to
make the throw to 1b.
- Moore struck out looking (2-2 count).
- 7th inning
- Stanford (3 earned runs):
- Pecci homered on a hard line drive shot over the rf fence (rbi).
- Day singled up the middle.
- Thompson flew out to lf.
- Salter tripled to the lf/cf gap (rbi). Day scored.
- Texas sent Barker in to pitch.
- Schrager tripled off the top of the lf fence (rbi). Salter
scored.

- Gerut struck out looking (1-2 count).
- Hochgesang grounded out to the pitcher (1-3).
- Texas:
- Stanford sent Wayne in to pitch.
- Nicholson flew out to cf.
- Johnson flew out to rf.
- Sepulveda struck out swinging (1-2 count).
