Comments

I listened to the first part of this game from McCombs Field where I'd been watching the innaugural softball games. So, I missed a few things as I was trying to keep score. Forgive any errors that may appear in the box as a result.

It sounded like pretty miserable baseball weather...with rain falling for most of the 5th and getting harder as they entered the 6th inning. The game was finally called due to the rain as the Horns were batting in the 6th. Halter started off well but got into a bit of trouble in the 4th, as the two leadoff hitters homered. Munroe came in and got the win. Nicholson came up to bat in the 6th with the bases loaded and hit a base-clearing double. Sadly, it was nullified when the game was called.

1st inning
- Texas:
  - Richardson grounded out to the pitcher on a bunt attempt (1-3).
  - Cridland flew out to cf.
  - Schumacher struck out swinging.
- USC:
  - Rachels lined out to lf.
  - DePippo grounded out to 3b (5-3).
  - Gorr went down swinging. Cox dropped the ball and had to complete the out by throwing to 1b (2-3).
2nd inning
- Texas:
  - Loeffler grounded out to ss (6-3).
  - Kolbach singled.
  - Aspito hit into a 6-4-3 double play.
- USC (3 earned runs):
  - Munson doubled.
  - Ensberg bunted for a single. Munson moved to 3b.
  - Ticehurst struck out swinging.
  - Lane hit a sac fly to rf (rbi). Munson scored.
  - During Freitas' at bat, Ensberg stole 2b and advanced to 3b on a throwing error by Cox (e2).
  - Freitas homered (2 rbi).
  - Davidson reached on an error by Moore (e6).
  - During Rachels' at bat, Davidson stole 2b.
  - Rachels flew out to cf.

  - Moore failed to reach base (I didn't hear what he did).

  - Cridland doubled (2 rbi). Cox and Richardson scored. On the throw in, Cridland advanced to 3b on an error by Gorr (e3) who failed to corral the throw.

  - Gorr hit into a 1-6-3 double play.
  - Munson singled.
  - During Ensberg's at bat, Munson stole 2b.
  - Ensberg walked.
  - Ticehurst struck out looking.
4th inning

  - Loeffler struck out.
  - Kolbach singled.
  - Aspito reached on an error by 2b. Kolbach reached 2nd safely.
  - Kolbach moved to 3b and Aspito moved to 2b on a wild pitch during Moore's at bat.
  - Moore homered (3 rbi).
  - Nicholson popped out to lf.
  - Cox homered (1 rbi).
  - Richardson lined out to lf.
- USC (2 earned runs):
  - Lane honered (1 rbi).
  - Freitas homered (1 rbi).
  - Texas sent Munroe in to pitch.
  - Persell (pinch hitting for Davidson) struck out.
  - Rachels singled.
  - DePippo singled. Rachels moved to 2b.
  - During Gorr's at bat, Rachels advanced to 3b on a wild pitch and was then picked off (2-5) by Cox. DePippo moved to 2b on the pick off play.
  - Gorr popped up to rf.
5th inning

  - USC sent Schultz in at 2b.
  - Cridland grounded out to 2b (4-1).
  - Schumacher grounded out to 1b (3-1).

  - USC sent Immel in to pitch.
  - Nicholson doubled to clear the bases.
  - Rain delay...

At this point, the game went into rain delay for about 20 minutes and was then called due to the weather. The scoring in the top of the 6th was nullified and the final score reverted to the score at the end of the 5th.
