Orange Captures Second Straight Series Win Over White, 8-4
Loeffler and Meadows key a five-run first inning for the Orange
AUSTIN, TX - Junior Brett Loeffler and freshman Tim Meadows each connected on first-inning home runs to help stake the University of Texas Orange squad to an early 5-0 lead over the Texas White team en route to an 8-4 triumph and their second straight Fall World Series win.
Loeffler, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, followed a walk to Sean Braswell with his home run before Meadows drove in another pair just four batters later. Freshman Kade Johnson also paced the Orange attack, which accumulated three more runs over the final six innings, by going 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Headlining the afternoon for the White team was freshman Matt Rosenberg, who collected two hits in two at-bats and also drove in two of the team's four runs.
Picking up the win for the Orange was freshman right-hander Jim Munroe, who allowed two earned runs on six hits over five innings of work while striking four. Meanwhile, fellow newcomer Scott Barrett struggled in his first World Series start for the White and was saddled with the loss.
