My own unofficial boxscore.
Texas Alumni 3, Texas Varsity 8
February 1, 1997
Austin, TX
As usual, the Alumni game didn't adhere strictly to the rules so the box probably won't add up. I'm not gonna bother to try and clean it up. There were too many substitutions to keep track of everything going on...especially since we weren't given a complete roster for the alumni who participated (although I think I did manage to identify all the players eventually). By the way, they only played 5 innings (including the bottom of the 5th despite the fact that the Varsity was winning at that point...just trying to get more of the players involved, I'm sure). It was a fun day. And, the weather was beautiful: warm and sunny.

There was a hitting contest and tribute to Cliff Gustafson before the game started. Over 100 ex-players showed up and 29 of them suited up to play the game. Among those who were suited up that didn't actually play in the game were: Larry Hardy, JoJo Hinojosa, Jason Layne, Scott Leon, Rodney Pedraza, Mark Petkovsek, and Stephen Randolph. I think.
The hitting contest was quite fun. When Brooks Kieschnick got up to the plate (the last batter in the contest), he quickly got his rhythm going and hit 3 or 4 in a row over the right field fence...it was great fun to watch.
Several members of the coach's family were seated along the 3b line. Bob Cole (KVET disc jockey) introduced them and then introduced Coach Gus who walked through the throng of ex-players and their families to the 3b coach's box. He received a standing ovation that lasted about 5 minutes or so. One of the Austin City Council members presented him with a key to the city and a plaque declaring February 1st to be Cliff Gustafson Day in Austin and Coach Gus as Austin Baseball Commissioner for life. Darryl Royal then presented the coach with a brand new red GMC pickup (payed for by several of the ex-players). The coach then thanked his family, all the players who'd ever played for him, and the fans. He rode around the field in his new pickup to another standing ovation. All in all, it was a very nice tribute.
The game was a lot of fun...as usual. There were a few mistakes made, particularly by the Alumni who obviously hadn't had time to practice. The Kyle Sisters sang the National Anthem and then Coach Gus threw the first pitch to Coach Garrido. Among the highlights, Scott Bryant (who struck out three times in last year's game) hit a homerun in the second inning that flew at least 10 feet over the scoreboard. We decided it must've gone at least 450 feet...amazing. Robert DeLeon also hit a homer over the lf fence in the last inning. Kip Harkrider hit a ground rule double over the rf fence in his first at bat and then hit a triple down the 1b line and into the rf corner (3 rbi) in his second at bat. Clint Kiemsteadt hit a double off the top of the cf fence...another foot and it would've been a homer.
